このアートワークは、コミュニケーションと地球環境をテーマにしています。白いスタートラインと黒いゴールラインは、1mの距離をおいて設置されています。そこに刻まれた矢印や数字を見れば、地球を一周して、残り１mの地点に置かれていることに気付きます。1mという距離は、人と人がコミュニケーションをはかるのに適切な距離であり、地球の大きさや地球環境を意識するきっかけとなる距離でもあります。地球規模の高度な情報ネットワークの最後の1mを繋ぐものは、顔をつきあわせての会話や握手や表情というコミュニケーションだという思いが込められています。また、熱伝導率の違いにより、夏は暑くて黒いベンチは座れないので白いベンチを選ぶ、というような自分の行動を通して、季節の変化を感じるという環境的な側面も持っています。今、スタートラインに立つ新入生たちが、4年後のゴールラインにたどり着くまでにこのベンチでの様々なコミュニケーションを通じ、社会生活での大切な糧となるかけがえのない体験を重ねられることを願っています。
The artwork’s theme revolves around communication and the global environment. Positioned 1 meter apart, a white start line and a black finish line symbolically encircle the globe, marked with arrows and numbers. This separation underscores the proximity of the lines to the last meter, emphasizing both the ideal distance for interpersonal communication and an awareness of the earth’s scale and environmental issues. The final meter of the global network is bridged through face-to-face conversations, handshakes, and facial expressions, fostering connections and environmental awareness. For instance, choosing a white bench in summer due to its cooler thermal conductivity highlights our responsiveness to seasonal changes. We envision that new students starting at the beginning line today will accumulate invaluable experiences through various interactions on this bench, enriching their social lives before they reach the goal line four years from now.
