この辺りは東海道第一の宿場、品川宿だった。細長く高低差のある敷地をここから始まる東海道の旅路になぞらえ、点在するフォリーには、ここから先の旅で出会うであろう７つの風景をサンプリングしその断片を5m角のフレームに挿入した。このフレームはある角度から見るとステンレスの鏡面仕上げで視界から消え去る。
This site marks the historic starting point of the Tokaido Highway at Shinagawa-juku. Spanning a long, narrow stretch with varying elevations, it mirrors the journey along the Tokaido Highway that commences here. Scattered across the site are follies representing seven landscapes one would encounter along this journey, each fragment artfully inserted within a 5-meter square frame. From a specific viewpoint, the stainless steel’s mirrored finish causes the frame to vanish from sight.
