温育 ON-IKU
別府の町を歩いていると、湯煙が湧き出す排水溝の脇の路傍の草たちの活力に目を奪われる事がある。温泉は人を癒すのだが、植物の成長とも関係しているのではないかと思い、温泉と植物と人間の関係を研究するラボを開設した。ペットボトルを住民に配布し、お気に入りの温泉水とその効能を記入。その温泉脇に自生する雑草をペットボトルに生けて展示し、太陽光の波長を再現した光源で生育状況を観察し記録した。

When strolling through Beppu, one cannot help but notice the vibrancy of roadside grasses flourishing alongside drainage ditches where hot spring water flows. While hot springs are renowned for their healing properties, they may also play a role in plant growth. To delve deeper into this relationship between hot springs, plants, and people, we established a laboratory. Residents were provided with plastic bottles and invited to share their favorite hot spring water and its perceived benefits. We collected wild weeds thriving near the hot springs and showcased them in PET bottles. Their growth was meticulously observed and documented under a light source mimicking sunlight wavelengths.
