箱根・強羅。
この場所を特徴付けるのは、65 万年もの火山活動により作られた地形やその恵みである温泉、大涌谷、早川、山々の隙間から現れる相模湾である。そうした自然の美を「水」「森」「谷」の三つの要素としてデザインに取り込み、それらを繋ぐ計画とした。
「森」は目の前に広がる保存緑地の中で森林浴を味わうアウトドアリビング。「谷」は現場で発生した石を使用した石積が同軸上にある箱根の大涌谷とつながり、「水」のテラスの水鏡は刻一刻と変化し、移ろいゆく箱根の自然を映しこむ。その水鏡の中で輝きを放つガラスのアートワークは、太陽光、月や星の光を封じ込めた水と光の結晶であり、太古からつながる日本人の自然に対する感性を蘇らせる環境装置でもある。

This site is defined by its topography shaped over 650,000 years of volcanic activity and its abundance of natural springs, including Owakudani Valley, the Hayakawa River, and glimpses of Sagami Bay through mountainous gaps. The architectural design embraces these natural wonders under the themes of “water,” “forest,” and “valley,” integrating them seamlessly.
The “forest” serves as an outdoor sanctuary amidst preserved greenery, perfect for forest bathing and immersive natural experiences. The “valley” connects to the Owakudani Valley in Hakone via locally sourced stone masonry, fostering a harmonious link between landscapes. Meanwhile, the “water” terrace hosts a dynamic water mirror reflecting Hakone’s ever-changing scenery. Glass artworks embedded within this mirror capture and refract sunlight, moonlight, and starlight, embodying an ecological tribute to ancient Japanese reverence for nature.
